There’s a strong connection between Orkney and Iceland, and we’ve been going to Iceland since 2011 to explore this connection. The Orkneyinga Saga was even written in Iceland! Specialist birds that we hope to see include Barrow’s goldeneye; harlequin duck; red-necked and grey phalaropes; Brunnich’s guillemot; white-tailed eagle, merlin and gyr falcon. Added to this is the backdrop of the stunning volcanic and geo-thermal scenery of Iceland, with geysers, waterfalls and glaciers as standard. An optional whale-watching trip is possible as we seek close-ups of orcas and sperm whales. The itinerary will include 3 evenings at Grundarfjörður in Snaefellsnes (NW Iceland); 3 evenings in Eyjafjörður in Northern Iceland; a return trip back south through the spectacular interior; and a final evening in Hveragerði. Our Iceland trips are amongst the finest that we do, facilitated by an exceptional local guide in the form of our partner, Andy Jones, of the Iceland Naturalist – see www.icelandnaturalist.com. Price £2,095 per person excluding flights (single supplement of £250 will apply if applicable). For further details please email enquiries@orcadianwildlife.co.uk – tour leaders Andy Jones and Steve Sankey. For pictures of recent tours click here. A detailed itinerary is available on request.
