Orcadian Wildlife Iceland Tour Monday 3 July 2017 – Monday 10 July 2017: tour leader Steve Sankey. The cultural and biological connections between Orkney and Iceland are strong which is why several years ago we began our tours to Iceland. The Orkneyinga Saga, for example, a ripping yarn about the Orkney Viking Earls was written in Iceland. Our wintering great northern divers, Slavonian grebes, long-tailed ducks, pink-feet and greylag geese, and redwing all breed in Iceland. Our 2017 tour will visit the spectacular west, north and southern Iceland, visiting such sites as Snæfellsnes, Akureyri, Mývatn, Gullfoss and DyrhÓlaey. Iceland’s avifauna is not extensive, but includes some unforgettable birds such as Barrow’s goldeneye, harlequin duck, red-necked phalarope (at extremely close quarters!), Brunnich’s guillemot, sea eagle and gyr falcon. A half-day whale-watching tour is included off Snæfellsnes where we hope to see sperm whale and orca. Accommodation is in 3 separate locations. For a detailed itinerary please enquire here. For further details and pictures of previous Iceland trips click here. Cost £1,995 per person (excludes flight). Single supplement £200. Meeting Point: Keflavik International Airport. THIS TOUR IS NOW FULL.
